The Hand and Flowers ** | Marlow (UK)

The Hand and Flowers is located in the beautiful Georgian town of Marlow, Buckinghamshire (UK), It was Tom Kerridge’s first pub and the only in the country to attain and hold two Michelin stars.

The pub opened in 2005 and gained its first Michelin star within a year, achieving its second in 2012. It also currently has four AA Rosettes and headed the Top 50 Gastropubs list for many years in a row.

The Hand and Flowers is not Tom’s only pub, he owns and runs two others in Marlow – the Butcher’s Tap being the most recently opened. The Coach, formerly headed by Nick Beardshaw, achieved its first Michelin star in 2017.

The Hand and Flowers is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner, except Sunday evening. The à la carte menu offers 7 Starters (£13.50-£18.50), 7 Mains (£39.50-£47), 3 Sides (£5.50-£7), 7 Desserts (£16-£17). There is also Set Lunch Menu (2-courses at £25 and 3-courses at £29.50) and Sunday Lunch Menu, which is an à la carte menu with Sunday roast additions.

We went in January 2018 for lunch. Although I didn’t make any notes that day, I don’t want you to miss out on the pictures of the dishes.

The Hand and Flowers’ signature whitebait with a Marie Rose dipping sauce
Salt baked carrot and haggis tart
Lovage Soup with Bramley Apple, Smoked Eel, and Ham and Cheese Tortellini
West End Farm Pork Belly with Smoked Cheek Beignet, Black Pudding and Gherkin Ketchup
Loin of Cotswold Venison with Carrot & Marmite Purée, Keema Dhal, Salt Baked Carrot and Spiced Beef Puff

I’m sorry I can’t do a review of this one, but without notes I simple can’t remember all details of the dishes, flavours, etc. and I certainly don’t want to make something up.
The Hand and Flowers is on my list to visit again and I will be sure to do a proper review next time.
